The City of Gardena Outstanding Business Award is presented semi-annually, to a business in the city based on quality of the business, business achievements, and community involvement. Winners are selected every six months, and nominations are reviewed by the Gardena Business Advisory Council (G-BAC).

Winner of the Outstanding Business Award

July – December 2009


The Gardena Business Advisory Council (G-BAC) is pleased to present the Outstanding Business Award for July – December 2009 to HITCO Carbon Composites, Inc.

HITCO Carbon Composites, Inc., located on 22 acres at 1600 W. 135th Street has been doing business in Gardena since 1922 and is the oldest, continuously operating composites provider in the United States. HITCO is also one of Gardena’s most consistent revenue producers and one of its largest employers, providing jobs for over 400 employees who engineer, fabricate, assemble and inspect aerospace composite materials. HITCO’s parent company, SGL Group, is headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany.

HITCO is a major supplier of composites structures, rocket nozzles and high temperature materials to the aerospace and industrial markets. Its customers are comprised of a variety of industries that include aerospace, military, civil aviation, thermal management, metal and chemical processing, and automotive.

The company has earned the prestigious honor of being the oldest, continuous provider of composites in the United States.  Over the years, HITCO has received numerous awards from The Boeing Company, Rockwell International, and the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB) to name just a few.

HITCO has demonstrated its attributes as a good neighbor and is involved with the following programs:

1)    Gardena Police Officer’s Association Youth Sports, Say No To Drugs Program, Scholastic Achievement Scholarships;

2)    Close Up Foundation at Gardena High School;

3)    American Red Cross;

4)    Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce;

5)    Gardena Food Pantry; and

6)    Helping Hands.

HITCO’s President, Anthony Lawson, was recently nominated as a Board member to the South Bay Workforce Investment Board.  His innovative thinking was the driving force behind the creation of a new workforce development training program for Gardena youth.

G-BAC extends its congratulations and best wishes for continued success to Mr. Lawson and HITCO Carbon Composites, Inc. as they move forward in achieving their goal to bring pride, business growth and economic stability to the City.
