Brownfields Public Engagement Process published by Institute for Local Government

In 2004, the City of Gardena, in partnership with residential and business community members, formed the Brownfield Community Relations Committee (BCRC). The BCRC works on the redevelopment and/or reuse of brownfield sites. The Brownfields Public Engagement Process was applauded for exemplifying good local governance in a recent article by the Institute for Local Government.

Revitalization Program Implemented by the City of Gardena

To create a vibrant and expanding commercial environment that both supports and encourages economic strength within the project area for all businesses, stimulates quality retail development, creates employment, provides needed services to the community and contributes to the overall economic revitalization of the City of Gardena.

Housing Assistance Programs

The City of Gardena offers numerous housing assistance programs designed to help local families improve their standard of living. These programs are made possible through the use of State HOME funds and CalHome Program funds. For more information, contact the Housing Services Office.

Brownfields Program

The EPA defines a brownfield as real property, the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties protects the environment, reduces blight, and takes devlopment pressures off greenspaces and working lands.
